: Stained Glass Design

The steps for your stained glass design are the same for any size stained glass accept, of course, pieces are usually fewer and smaller.
How a project starts
The best way to start is to look at a window or an empty space and create or imagine a stained glass design, what you would see there. Think of the room or the person that you are making the stained glass for and plan the colors and size before cutting small pieces for your stained glass.
Tools and supplies you will need

I was given an old window frame, I looked at it and I could imagine a light house, water with rocks, clouds and a bird, of course I have a trade mark I like to add in my stained glass design. As you will realize a suncatcher can be very small or as big as you imagine it. I plan to use different material, I like to mix my mediums in my stained glass design, for example I’ll be adding light metal for the top of the light house and that piece will be curved to make it three dimensional.
Before cutting small pieces for stained glass you’ll have chosen what kind of pattern or design for your stained glass project.
What colours are you thinking of? Remember there are no right or wrong here. Think of the person you are creating this stained glass for or the color of the room the suncatcher will go in and also put a little of you in there. |
Next how big will you do this project, are you going with a window frame in mind or will it be a hanger? Always remember there is the weight of the glass to think of even if you’re cutting small pieces for stained glass the weigh can add up. If it’s too heavy it might break easier or the little hangers might not be strong enough to hold your beautiful art work.
Take your pattern and decide what each color will be and then draw those pieces on your glass, at the beginning you might want to cut out cardboard before cutting small pieces for stained glass. |

| Doing Stained glass can be very overwhelming at first, how much presser to apply on your knife and does this really cut. You don’t have to be genius to create a stained glass design but doing your first piece can be very intimidating. Well, I suggest, not to waste too much glass, you’ll draw your pieces with a marker ”a dry erasable” and in between your pieces just cut a straight line, then using your pliers cut. |
